DOCU-SERIES

SAU JIU-JITSU

With Submission Arts United I was originally approached for simple event photographs of an upcoming competition, but the project quickly evolved into a four-part video documentary series. Crafting narratives that highlight the sport’s prestige and unique stories, I used a cinema-style camera with a zoom lens on a gimbal, several lapel microphones, and captured off-the-cuff interviews and loads of fight footage to craft far more engaging narratives around the sport than we had seen anywhere else.

Our goal was to redefine sports highlight films in MMA and jiu-jitsu. Beyond showcasing the physical prowess and precision technique of the sport, we aimed to capture the sport’s essence – demonstrated best by the sport’s diverse characters and competitors!

Despite the challenge of making the sport relatable to outsiders while maintaining the precision of the sport for the aficionados, we managed to successfully produce several popular docu-series episodes, now extending into 2024, following new competitors with each new episode.
